The goal was to create a series where we could bring awareness to upcoming events, guest speakers, and also to introduce the entire staff in a unique way. It is easy to move on in church life, and really not know who is on the church staff.

By now, I bet you are guessing where this is going….to the most over done church video idea in the last 2 years……”The Church Office.” We thought about that, but it is just so over done. We eventually landed on using the mockumentary formula. In doing this, we wrote scripts in a way that exaggerated the staff’s personalities. We made it know to the staff as a whole that if they wanted out, they could just decline to participate. Nobody declined.

As the series went on, we realized that the church body was becoming more and more interested in the series…which is always good. We literally had two couples that said they decided to join our church because through the series, we seemed to not take ourselves too seriously. They appreciated the laid back attitude and humor. Not only that, but the staff became closer. I noticed the different personalities on the staff hanging out more. Overall, it was worth the efforts. It might not have had many Biblical themes within it, but we felt like it filled the role of the typical announcement video. And changing things up every once in a while is always good for the announcement portion of the service. And it was also good for the ‘ole video producer. I love the kreative freedom to write, and to do something different.

On a side note, I would have loved to have shot it in HD, and have a one or two more on the film crew, but sometimes you gotta take what you got. We shot with Panasonics DVX100, and were limited to use all natural lighting, and shoot on the fly. Nothing is better that letting the kreative energy do all the work. We created our own theme music, nothing trendy, just something perfect for the humor.
