Making Ideas Happen
I recently purchased Making Ideas Happen #MIH by @scottbelsky and finished reading it in less than a week. There are very few books that interest me enough to buy on the release date and very very few books I can actually read in a week, not because I’m a slow reader but because I read multiple books at once. MIH is a must read for creatives in any market hands down. Scott Belsky understands the creative world and knows how to combine the leadership edge needed for creatives to flourish. One of the things that really resonated with me in this book is the importance of community and accountability that Scott stresses as key factors to succeed.
Here are seven ideas I highlighted while reading MIH
1. This book focuses on creativity and how successful creatives stay productive and consistently execute their ideas
2. Successful creative entities must be comfortable alternating between ideation and execution
3. Extremely productive and accomplished teams capitalize on the power of community to push their ideas forward
4. Organization is the guiding force of productivity
5. The aesthetics of the tools you use to make ideas happen matter
6. As a leader of a creative team, you should create an environment that allows premature action
7. Shipping is the final act of execution that so rarely happens
