Open Source – The Essence Of The Gospel

As you know, a couple of days ago I posted about the open source iphone app. I’ve received  emails and tweets from churches that are digging into the code to create an app for their church.

I absolutely love that! I love that we are able to share a resource that would have cost thousands of dollars of church money.

I love the fact that LifeChurch is giving away sermon outlines with supporting graphics and videos.

I love the fact that Jeff Wilson, Eric Granata, and the team at Henderson Hills felt led to share an incredible solution for digital signage.

I love the fact that CreativeMYK created a community of Christian artists to share their designs for anyone to use.

This is a reflection of Christ.

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Mark 10:45

But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:15-17

And it’s what the early church did.

And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Acts 2:45-47

Giving stuff away is at the very heart of what it means to be the Body of Christ.

So, what resources can your church share?
