Design FAIL

An interface designer named Dustin Curtis did a mock up for a redesigned American Airlines site.
AA didn’t ask for it. He did it on his own initiative to get a point across to AA that their website was far from useful. While his rant was directed toward AA, the points he makes are applicable to interaction and design.

The creative mentor

My friend Matt Coleman of Unblind Productions has been my “creative mentor” for the last six years. I actually met Matt my last year of high school when I was into photography and he was figuring out how to be a videographer. We met when we were both volunteering to help create a website for our church and ended up at the same meeting. Since then we have worked on numerous projects together and have been on somewhat similar paths creating media in the church and producing short films.

Poll: How Large Is Your Worship Guide?

It seems like there’s always a debate between communications and ministry about what content should be in the worship guide. In most cases, communications is going to choose a minimal amount of information, perhaps directing readers to the website for a more robust hub of info. Ministry, on the other hand, is going to want to have everything up front.

Why pastors should be artists and artists should be pastors

Last year I had the opportunity to attend a symposium called Transforming Culture that was held in Austin, TX. One of the topics led by Eugene Peterson, Author of the Message and countless books spoke about the Pastor as Artist. Not to be confusing he was not suggesting that Pastors become Artists or Artists become Pastors, however Eugene argues for the Pastor to be artistic and for the Artist to be pastoral.

Adding more hands to the creative process

Churches are known to rely on volunteers and in some churches you are even required to serve in some area to be a member there. Volunteers often serve in high capacities and in almost every aspect of the church.

One of the role’s of the church is very clear in scripture in Ephesians 4:11-12 where Paul states, “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…This is a call to equip the people for the work of ministry. This is an open invitation where ministry is not done by a few hired staff but by an entire flock.
